"Litany" (Remix... about food)

Remake of Billy Collins' "Litany"... But it's about food! ;)

You are the peanut butter and the jelly,
the crackers and the humas.
You are the smell of pie in the sourthern air
and the hard work of a farmer.
You are the flower on the bakers nose,
and the pizza spinning in mid air.

However, you are not the sound of the oven beeping
the wine in a bottle,
or the game on Sunday morning.
And you are certainly not the hard work day.
There is just no way that you are the hard work day.

It is possible that you are the joy of a child,
maybe even the mash potatoe fight in the lunch room,
but you are not even close
to being the millions of little children hungry everday.

And a quick look in the mirror will show
that you are neither the tired workers at dusk
nor the baby crying in his crib.

It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the fat kid scarfing down the cake.

I also happen to be the infant in the crib crying for his next meal,
the joy of poor children as they taste the taste of mint ice cream
and the happy look of a man when he realizes that there is a meal at home waiting for him.

I am also the aroma of grandmama's cooking on a Sunday night
and the vegetarian's satisfaction of a healthy carrot.
But don't worry, I'm not the peanut butter and the jelly.
You are still the peanut butter and the jelly.
You will always be the peanut butter and the jelly.
not to mention the crackers and--somehow--the humas.
